Note: In order for the process described below to apply to your school, you will first need to be part of the Edvance Christian Schools Association sharing group. If you have questions about this, please contact support.
Edvance Christian School Association has mapped many exemplary courses and related lesson plans which they are happy to provide to other schools in the association. There are several steps to be taken by both account administrators and teachers in order for that content to become available for use within your own Curriculum Trak account and revised to reflect your specific use.
Importing Maps/Lesson Plans (CT Admins): Before teachers can begin working with the Edvance Christian Schools Association maps or lesson plans, an account administrator needs to take the following steps:
- Review the Edvance Templates to consider how the content can be imported into your account in the most efficient way.
- To Review the Edvance Unit Plan Template: (Video on this topic)
- Click on Other Curriculum and select the “Search by Course Name” option.
- Locate the “Edvance Christian School Association” from the District filter (since they are based in Ontario, they will be listed in the “International” section toward the bottom of the list.
- Narrow the search to the extent that you would like to by selecting a grade or entering a course subject/title.
- Click on the course name to view the course map. Notice the field titles across the top in the red header.
- To Review the Edvance Lesson Plans: (Video on this topic)
- Click on Other Curriculum and select the “Search by Lesson Name” option.
- Locate the “Edvance Christian School Association” from the District filter (since they are based in Ontario, they will be listed in the “International” section toward the bottom of the list.
- Narrow the search to the extent that you would like to by selecting a grade and/or lesson keyword.
- In the listed results, click on any lesson name to preview the lesson content. Notice the field titles across the top in the orange header.
- Template considerations – As you import the courses and lessons, you will be asked to map the Edvance fields with similar fields in your account (see the next steps for details about this process). Here are some items you may want to consider before taking those steps:
- How does the Edvance unit plan fields or lesson plan fields differ from your current process? Is there a logical place for the content to fit (even if the field titles are not the same)?
- Would it be helpful to add some fields to our template in order to adequately capture all of the existing content from Edvance (these fields could be deleted at some point in the future)?
- Would it be better to have a completely separate template to receive the Edvance units and/or lesson content? Curriculum Trak can support multiple templates and, in some cases, report on courses one template at a time.
- If you need assistance making changes to an existing template or adding a template, please contact support. These videos may be helpful to get you started:
- To Review the Edvance Unit Plan Template: (Video on this topic)
- Import desired courses and lessons – Course maps/unit plans can be imported with or without the companion lessons. (Video on this topic)
Here are the steps to take:- Click on Admin and select the “Courses Database.”
- Look for “Import Maps/Lessons from this Group: Edvanced Christian Schools Association”
- The two steps in the process will be outlined. Click “Continue to Step 1” where you will be asked to match the Edvanced fields with your own fields.
- Continue to step 2 where you will be able to select one or as many courses as you would like to have added to your account.
- After the import has been completed, return to the “Manage Courses” area in the upper right to complete the final steps prior to a teacher can begin working with the course.
- Click on the “Attach” button in the “Assign Teacher’s” column to identify which teacher(s) should have editing and lesson planning rights for the course. (This video demonstrates this process; this video demonstrates how you can attach multiple courses to the same teacher)
- Click on the “Attach” button in the “Attach Benchmarks” column to identify the priority standards/benchmarks/ministry expectations for the course. (This video demonstrates this process.)
Working with Imported Maps/Lesson Plans (CT Editors/Viewers):
- Course maps/unit plans – if the teacher (with editing rights) has been attached to the imported course, that teacher will automatically be able to update/revise the course map/units plans as they can any other course for which they are responsible. The course should appear under their “My Courses” list.
- Lesson Plans – To access the lesson plans, any teacher (Editor or Viewer) attached to a course can take the following steps:
- Create a class section for the course as he/she would any other course they will be creating lesson plans for.
- Copy the lessons to their own lessons database as they would any other lesson they would like to copy from a co-teacher. In this case, the Edvance lessons are stored under a teacher named “Copied Lessons.”
- After the teacher has made the lesson part of his/her own lessons database, any desired edits or updates can be made to that lesson and reflected only in their copy of the lesson plan. The original lesson plan is still available to be copied by other teachers, or again by the same teacher.
Review the “Teacher Training” area in the Help Manual to assist with these steps.
